A representative from Japan's Land Ministry was surprised to see that the real estate information website, launched on April 1, has received over 10 million page views in its first six months.
The Real Estate Information Library, created by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, allows users to overlay important data for property transactions on a single map. This popular site provides information on real estate transaction prices, school districts, hazard maps, and standard land prices released on September 17. It also offers an English language option.
One of the website's main features is its ability to "visualize" data by layering different themes, such as land prices and disaster prevention. Previously, there was no system that could show users the relative locations of public real estate information from both national and local governments.
According to the ministry, this system combines valuable information for those looking to buy or sell property. Users can search for specific locations on the map and select what information they want to see, with related data displayed accordingly. The site is also mobile-friendly, with about 30% of its page views coming from smartphones.
The information on the website is free for private companies, and the ministry hopes to use this data to develop new services through system integration. The platform is already being utilized by real estate portal websites.
The map can display more than 30 types of data, including:
Prices: Land and property transactions
Topography: Shaded-relief maps and large fill sites
Disaster Prevention: Potential flood zones and sediment disaster warnings
Nearby Facilities: School districts and healthcare institutions
City Planning: Zoning areas and specific-use areas
Population: Projections and transit usage per station
A ministry representative stated, "The response has exceeded our expectations. We will consider adding more data to the website based on user needs."
