Tokyu Corporation Selected as the Designated Developer for the JR Ashiya Station South Area Redevelopment

Tokyu Corporation was selected as the designated developer for the "Hanshin Area Urban Planning Project JR Ashiya Station South District Second-Class Urban Redevelopment Project" on August 26, 2024. On October 31, 2024, Tokyu Corporation signed a basic agreement with Ashiya City regarding the responsibilities and tasks of the designated developer, officially confirming their participation in the project.

The area around JR Ashiya Station is located in the heart of Ashiya City and serves as a key hub for commercial and business functions. It is also an important regional exchange point for both the Hanshin area and Ashiya City.

In this area, a community-based organization focused on urban development was established in June 1998, leading to the planning of the urban redevelopment project. However, due to Ashiya City's financial difficulties, the project was postponed in December 2001, before the urban planning procedures could be finalized.

Subsequently, in March 2010, Ashiya City formulated the "4th Ashiya City Comprehensive Plan." With a goal to enhance the transportation functions around the station and create a distinctive southern gateway to Ashiya, the city restarted discussions on urban development in collaboration with local residents. This led to the creation of the "JR Ashiya Station South Area Urban Development Basic Plan."

Based on this basic plan, Ashiya City has been advancing the urban redevelopment project, which focuses on solving transportation issues and strengthening transportation connections.

The redevelopment aims to create a landmark that will circulate people and activity into the city from Ashiya's gateway, while coexisting with surrounding areas. The project is designed to contribute to the sustainable development of Ashiya City and create a lively and vibrant community.

The main project involves the construction of a redevelopment building with 2 underground floors and 11 above-ground floors, directly connected to the station. The building will house residential units, commercial facilities, and public amenities, with a focus on landscape, environmental considerations, disaster prevention measures, and integration with the surrounding area.

The project is scheduled to begin construction around January 2026, with completion expected around September 2029.
